And I do not mean the song by Willie Nelson.
What I do mean is the fact that road bike season opened today. After a horrendous February, weather wise, I was able to get Sue Ann on the road for the first training ride of 2010. To say that I was happy would be an understatement. We purred along at 14.9 MPH in almost perfect weather for early March and logged 17 miles. Now I only have 383 training miles to do before TOSRV. You know, that 210 mile trip I do from Columbus to Portsmouth and back during the first week of May? Yea, that one.
I have to say I felt good today and it was hard to tell I had a 4 1/2 month lay-off from the bike. I will let you know how I feel tomorrow though!
It’s funny how far I have come in the years that I have been biking. My very first “ride” on my very first bike lasted a whole mile and a half. And I was stoked. My first “major” ride lasted a whopping 7 1/2 miles and I was wiped out. From there, a training ride of 10 miles was an accomplishment.
My first planned “big” ride lasted 27 miles and when I was done with that ride, I spent an hour in the jacazzi and then slept. The first organized ride I did was for 50 miles and that took me almost 4 1/2 hours ride time and I was so drained after that ride that it was hard to drive home. And then, I could barely go up the staircase. (ride a bike, you’ll understand).
So to say that on my first ride of this season, I went 17 miles, without batting an eye….
You’ve come a long way, baby!
